Tragedy and Hope
(a History of the World in Our Time)
by Carroll Quigley. MacMillan, 1966
Binding by Minsky 1988
9" x 6 3/4"
Kid vellum (tanned by the artist) over collage and acrylic, gold title.

Under the lampshade skin, dollars become swastikas on the world map.

This history book names the real villains in world events. In the 1988 Zabriskie Gallery exhibit, the book was displayed open to the page naming the German industrial cartel members who became naturalized American citizens in the 1930's. They sat on the Boards of major American corporations and supplied Hitler with materials needed for armaments. The collage under the kid skin, which is translucent lampshade vellum, consists of American currency cut into swastikas, placed on the world map.
