In 1984 I was asked to give two slide talks in Hawaii, at the University of Hawaii in
Honolulu and the Organization of International Artists in Hanalei, Kauai. Recently I had done
a teacher training workshop with Morrnah Simeona in New York City, and thought this would be a
good opportunity to continue studying Huna with her in Honolulu.

The first lecture was in Hanalei. The OIA had arranged for me to have a condo there for a
week. Kauai is a wonderful island, with a tropical rain forest just a few miles from an arid
desert. There were places where I had miles of beach to myself. There are often double and
even triple rainbows.

My host was clearing a parcel of land and on it was a large flat area. You could barely see
through the overgrowth that it had been paved in stone. This was a heiau, the site of an
ancient temple. Standing there I felt a wave of spirits calling me, and some very
powerful and dark forces. It was like no feeling I'd ever had. Somehow I knew that there
had been many human sacrifices on this site. I performed the ceremonies to release the
trapped souls and cleanse the place of negative entities, and felt a great weight lifted.

The following week I went to Honolulu to give the other talk and to study with Morrnah.
When I saw her the first thing she said was, "So you did the Mahiki at the heiau." I was
dumbfounded. She had no way of knowing about this. I said, "Yes, how did you know." She
said, "One of the 200 spirits you released came to me on the path of light and said 'Isn't it
funny that the Hawaiians left us there for hundreds of years, and he came all this way to
free us.'"
